Product Review VII: Growing Taller Secrets By Robert Grand

I am going to try to review a very unique product this time. It is not a “nutritional multi-vitamin supplement” or E-Product like “Grow Taller 4 Idiots” (Update: Apparently I was wrong about this product not being an E-Product, it is or actually it can come in electronic or paperback form). It seems to be a paperback book, non-fiction titled ” Grow Taller Secrets: Journey Into The World Of Human Growth And Development, or How To Grow Taller Naturally And Safely, 2nd Ed.” The book is written by Robert Grand. It has a long title, so I’ll just call it “Growing Taller Secrets”, or GTS for short.

I don’t have the paperback book or intend to order it but wanted to try to analyze and review it as well as I can from other people’s reviews, comments, and opinions they have made on the book.

My main resources that I used were from the actual Amazon webpage that sells the product which you can find HERE, However, it would appear that there seems to be more than 1 of these Amazon customer review pages.

For the first edition of the Growing Taller Secrets book, you can click on this link HERE.

To start off, here are the first problems I have with this book. It states that for the 1st edition of the book, it will cost you $388 for it in new conditions and for used books, it will cost you $98!! I am astounded at how expensive this paperback is supposed to be.

NOTE: If you really wanted to take a look at the book, go to the Products section and I have a copy of the 1st edition of the book. It’s free to download.

Review of 1st edition

On the amazon page for the 1st edition, there are 73 customer reviews, which are equally distributed between people who praise the book and others who criticize it. You can get to the customer reviews by clicking HERE. In my opinion, when it comes to products that claim to increase one’s height, it is important to be first skeptical, get all the information, but also have the willingness to try to have some faith and suspend our judgement for later.

These are the reviews that criticize the book which offer more details and insight than just bashing the guy or the product without explaining themselves.

2.0 out of 5 stars New Review for 2007, July 21, 2007      By – J. Curnow
This review is from: Growing Taller Secrets (Paperback)

There is alot of debate surrounding the techniques described in this book, and I recommend being very skeptical about spending so much money on it. It is actually quite simple… If the techniques described in “Growing Taller Secrets” have not been scientifically proven as effective ways of enhancing an adults height after the growth process has been completed, there is really no reason to purchase this book. Instead, I recommend a more intelligent approach; that is: to go to your local bookstore and read the book for free, since THERE ARE ONLY 50 SOMETHING PAGES.

I have personally not come across an effective way to increase ones height when they are already an adult, but that is not to say that there isn’t a way to do so. I’m sure there most certainly is, however, so far as MOST OF US UNDERSTAND, it has not been discovered by science just yet. It is extremely wise to be skeptical of Mr. Robert Grand suppossedly bringing forward some “Growing Taller Secrets” without definitive scientific evidence(based on studies) to support what he says. And from what I understand(But I could be wrong on this one), Mr. Grand does not have expertise or qualifications in the fields necessary to provide concrete and conclusive information regarding this matter. I personally am not the type of science freak that feels it is necessary for someone to provide scientific evidence supporting everything that they say. But with this it is quite simple, and without scientific evidence supporting his claims, it is unwise to spend the money on this book.

Now I’m no expert, but from what I understand, it is still possible to gain permanent increases in height within your midsection(spinal column), regardless of whether or not your growth plates in your long bones have closed off or not. Don’t just take Mr. Robert Grand’s word for it with something so controversial as this; he needs to back up what he says with concrete evidence. Otherwise you shouldn’t pay attention to it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Confusing really…, June 15, 2003    By – Sandra Hilton

i’m 5’6″…average height and i’m 17…i have aspirations of becoming a model (and i can at this height, buh im juss not happy with it) but i have asked my doctors and several others if i could somehow increase growth, and their response was simple “no. growth is in the genetics of the family, and how you diet and exercise throughout your youth” and whatnot, and you stop growing at around 18 years of age.
i was on the brink of purchasing this book until i read the reviews. many people had questions and no one really answered them…people that apparently used this book had nothing to say…EXCEPT the people that have been on the site and decided to COPY and PASTE what was on it in the review pages. you can see for urself, go to robert grands website and see that their “success stories” are exactly word for word on these reviews. they’re exactly the same.
and if it was such a success and you did apparently gain a few inches, how come this book isn’t “popular”? many people want to grow taller and yet it took me a while to find this website and comments from ppl who have used it.
u can’t force growth. i know people don’t want to hear it, buh i faced it, all you need to do is take ur calcium supplements and exercise right. and if your over the age of 18 its pointless. be happy with your height!! at least everyone is healthy.
thankz.

I returned this book back and waited for a check or a credit and never heard from them until I had to email THEM about it. Then received a check in the mail just to have it BOUNCE! I emailed them several times and never heard from them again. Don’t buy this book if you don’t have the time, the “secrets” are to hang from a chin bar, stretch, eat right and jump around all day. So if you don’t have time to do that don’t buy it cause you won’t get your money back.

4.0 out of 5 stars it does work, November 11, 2003   By  – “jennifer4orr” (Burnaby BC)

I bought this book a little more than a year ago. This book may be very thin and cheap looking, but the info is there. I read a lot of skeptical reviews about why the author doesn’t show pictures and stuff. but his program has actually worked for me. I grew about an inch (which isn’t much at all), but that was also because i didn’t follow his program too a “T”. I actually slacked off a lot. It’s actually quite a bit of work – no pain no gain! Exercise programs, diets and stuff. I will continue with his program because i KNOW it works (it did for mw, even if it was just a little). but this time i will follow it completely and i will keep you guys posted. This is a REAL reader and customer, who saw REAL results. Email me at jennifer4orr@hotmail.com
1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage, November 22, 2005     By  – John “J” (Washington, DC) –
This review is from: Growing Taller Secrets (Paperback)

I wouldn’t line my birdcage with this garbage. Some of these glowing reviews (written in the same broken english), claim “I gained 7 inches in 3 months!. Come on. Does anybody real believe that? Please don’t pay all this money for a flimsy 50 page pamphlet. This peice of fluff basically just advises to do a few basic stretches and calisthenics and drink some protein shakes. Oh yeah, and it doesn’t work. You won’t gain 1 inch with this book. Not even a 1/4 inch. It’s trash.

2.0 out of 5 stars this wont make you grow taller, August 28, 2001     By  – yasir al-din (Wakefield, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) –

Guys, there is no doubt that this book will improve your physical fitness, but i dont think this book will make you grow taller. If you all go to Robert Grand website, you will realise that he says that he has grown 6 inches after trying those exercises that he drew in the book. The question is: where is the evidence of his 6 inch growth. Why doesnt he show any photos of him which proves he grew 6 inches. His so called secrets are not even secrets. If you go to the gym you will realise that most of his drawings in the book are already their. Plz dont buy this book. You are wastin your dreams of growth.
Me: I have the first edition in the Products section and have looked into the book, 1st edition myself first before I did this review. In terms of content, the E-Product is 55 pages. I didn’t even realize that the book came as a E-book but only as a paperback. That sort of destroys the book’s credibility already. The chapters are divided into a nutrition part, improved posture part, correct sleeping habits, and 3 chapters devoted to exercises. There is the preliminary exercises, the regular exercises, and advanced exercises. When I compare this E-Book to the other books I have found on the internet which is supposed to contain “secrets” to make you grow taller, the chapter on nutrition is almost exactly the same as the rest. The basic premise to eat right and eat the right type of food to get the proper amount of nutrition, vitamins, and minerals. You can basically read a very recent post I did which was a copy and paste of a online article which had some good content on nutrition and the specific types of vitamins one needs. The conclusion of this 1st edition is that it contains no new information for the height increase seeker. The exercise section is quite extensive and it will help a person who has been living unhealthily become healthier and fitter. This book can in theory help a person with bad posture gain 1 extra inch from one of its chapters. If I was asked whether it was a scam, I would say it is only partially a scam. It is obvious that whoever wrote the book was not trying to be truly original or creative. There were no “secrets” as advertised by the title. I would NEVER pay that much for a 50 page E-Product. The intent of the creation of the book was probably not to help others get taller, but to make money by selling an average product with information that is already available on the internet. Of the 73 current reviews done by other people on the amazon site, the ratings are equally distributed. If I could give you any advice, it would be to not spend almost $100 to buy such a small book which offers weak value.

2nd Edition Review
For the 2nd edition, I do not have a copy of the book. What I do know about it is that the book is now expanded with more pages. There is 11 customer review and the overall rating is that it gets 4 stars out of 5. I will copy and paste a few of the more detailed and insightful reviews I found from the Amazon Review Page which you can find as well if you click HERE.
5.0 out of 5 stars The most heplful book I’ve read in my life, November 29, 2010    By  – Robert L (LA)
This review is from: Growing Taller Secrets: Journey Into The World Of Human Growth And Development, or How To Grow Taller Naturally And Safely. Second Edition (Perfect Paperback)
I bought this book in March 2010 with little hope that it may possibly help me to add some height. Guys, this is the real thing! I’ve read this book 3 times over, as not everything is easy to remember at once, and still sometimes going back to the book for reference. Not that I’m really enjoying to read books about health, it’s just this book really gave me exactly what I needed – height. Yep, I will be 26 next month, had little hope on gaining anything at my age, but for the last 8 months of working with guidance from the book, I grew over 2.5 inches so far, and think have more to go!
Before getting hooked with this book I researched a lot on the internet, and very familiar with what’s available out there. I can say that generally speaking, a lot of principals shown in this book have some similarities to what I found on some sites. The big difference for me was that all I could find on internet was just general ideas on what may help, some of those ideas are contradictory. This book not only laid down all principals of how I can increase height the most, but in very fine detail it explained how to implement everything. I simply did not have to search for clues anymore, got all the info I needed in one place. Now, it’s like a bible of health for me.
The way the book is written can possibly be better, as several things were not completely clear to me from the first time I read it, but reading it again clarified everything. The book is easy to read (except some sections where you have to concentrate to understand it fully). Hey, it worked for me, that’s what counts. I’m engaged to a girl who is of the same height as me right now, but last year I was much shorter than her. It feels great!
Yes, I’ve read more interesting books (even though lots of interesting things I discovered here too), but this book helped me more than any other book I’ve ever read. Get the book, you won’t regret it.
2.0 out of 5 stars not worth it, November 24, 2010     By  – Annie Mars “Annie Mars” (New York) –  Amazon Verified Purchase
This review is from: Growing Taller Secrets: Journey Into The World Of Human Growth And Development, or How To Grow Taller Naturally And Safely. Second Edition (Perfect Paperback)
from the beginning of the book each chapter keeps saying: don’t skip me, don’t skip me, I am very important. For the author knows that if the reader skips these common-sense type of chapters (for example, talking about water, salt, sunlight), then people will find subsequent chapters to be even less appealing to read (exercise, diet stuff). The author says following his method one can grow 2-5 inches. How can he know that? did he really find someone who followed such suggestion and gathered statistics from these people?drink enough water, has good sun exposure, eat healthy food, sleep enough.
relax and stretch before you go to sleep, do morning and evening exercise, swim and basket ball helps you grow taller. Jumping is good. That is the summary of the book. Anything interesting or you don’t already know? The other secret from the author is that you always talk to yourself saying: I want to grow taller, what I am doing now makes me grow taller. That might be effective, and in any way, can not do any harm. But can it really make any difference?

Don’t buy it. Reading from internet is more helpful than this book.

If you want your baby to grow taller, “how to make your baby to be physically superb” has more practical info.

2.0 out of 5 stars not worth it, January 20, 2011      By – mishari – Amazon Verified Purchase
This review is from: Growing Taller Secrets: Journey Into The World Of Human Growth And Development, or How To Grow Taller Naturally And Safely. Second Edition (Perfect Paperback)

My impression is that the writer was trying to make the book as big as possible ,very thick papers, useless long explanations and subjects and big font.

even that maybe 1 or 2 subjects i liked from the whole book, the explanations were very shallow and almost useless.

I cant understand how reading this book made the reviewers grow a few inches in a few months !

the reviews mislead me, even 10$ is too much for such book

2.0 out of 5 stars Growing Taller Secrets Review, October 22, 2011   By  –  Zero “TDD” (Seatte, WA USA)  –  Amazon Verified Purchase
This review is from: Growing Taller Secrets: Journey Into The World Of Human Growth And Development, or How To Grow Taller Naturally And Safely. Second Edition (Perfect Paperback)

Terrible book. Do not buy it. Full of grammatical errors and unproven methods. The author suggests a diet high in carbohydrates, when in fact, carbohydrates causes your insulin to spike and makes you fat. Then this makes it harder to grow taller. Also, foods high in carbs have many vitamins and minerals inhibitors and thus, your body won’t absorb a lot of those nutrients. You need Calcium and Vitamin D mostly to grow. You need a diet with lots of fat as Vitamins A, D, E, K are fat soluble. Exercises to grow taller are: stretching, jumping, swimming, sprinting, basketball, weightlifting, etc. However, the more you exercise the more you need to eat in order for your body to make repairs and growth. I would NOT recommend this book

Me: So this new edition, the 2nd one seems to be far more informative and better reviewed than the previous edition. Since it is newer, there are less reviews on this new edition than the old 1st edition. The positive reviews seem to be personal and genuine and rather detailed. However, this is the part that makes me suspicious. The only bad reviews comes from people who has a Amazon Verified Purchase next to their account. That means that the only people who have actually bought this product at least from Amazon has consistently said the product was not good. That is a little worrying. As for this new edition of Growing Taller Secrets, I would say that there are probably good parts and not so good parts. Many of the reviews do say that there is a section for parents who want their kids to grow taller and that is still useful for the kids who are still growing. Would I call it a scam? I can’t do that because it is possible for some of the exercise inside the book does give a person some extra height if they follow the rules on good sleep nutrition. Most people who are interested in buying the book and who do buy it are probably young teenagers who want to add a few extra inches and they probably can still grow. In terms of effectiveness, the product is probably 2 out of 10. However, It is still very clear again that the writer’s intent is mainly to make money, from the price tag of almost $50 for one book.

    Hello Sir,
Although quite an insightful review, I beg to differ that this book is just for young teenager (although it would be twice as effective as if it were used by an adult). Many of the methods in this book actually helped improve my health, which is essential in growing. I haven’t followed the book’s exercises, but I’ve read it thoroughly and I must say this book contains everything EXCEPT B.S.

    Hello again,

Could I provide you with scanned copies of the 2nd Edition of the book just for your own reference? I don’t necessarily agree with some of the things but I suppose some things have validity and scientific ground. There are exactly 193 pages in the book and I think you reading the book entirely would be beneficial. I will not implement this program as I am eager to begin InstaHeight soon!

    Thanks again.

    Rafael
